Even with the pandemic, Jail Guitar Doors pursuit of providing quality music education programming in corrections facilities around the country. Now more than ever these programs are needed and have been a lifeline for prison populations that have major blows as lack of supplies, funding and program cutbacks continue. These programs have also been a way to build momentum for our dedicated group of teachers and facilitators, many of whom have gone through the jail guitar doors programs and are now re-entered citizens passing on their music workshop skills to communities. We are expanding our mission
In order to end the cradle to grave prison pipeline. Jail Guitar Doors is moving beyond correctional facilities and into the community. We created CAPO (Community Arts Programming & Outreach) to teach at-risk youth positive ways to channel creative expression through music education classes in songwriting, recording, and producing. CAPO’s classes, workshops, rehearsal, and recording sessions are led by industry professionals and occur after-school and on nights and weekends. Participants will receive instruction in music production, engineering, composition and arranging, recording and editing, licensing, marketing and promotions, and digital design.
We Need Your Help!
We are working hard to launch our first CAPO CENTER as a multipurpose classroom and performance space and community center. The Center will include rehearsal space, a state of the art recording studio, a computer lab, common area, kitchen, and bathroom.
